Reasons
to live in Chile - even if this is restricted only to the southern summer
- may be many: the flight from the european winter to southern summer;
the very favourable cost of living with a supply of consumer goods thoroughly
equal in rank with European supply, the realization of having your own
land and creating your dream - unthinkable in Europe without being a
millionaire; the benefit of personal safety and freedom of movement
in a politically stable and economically prosperous country; or simply
the possibility of living an adventure. The common denominator that
underlines all these reasons is the certainty that you will find here,
far from your hectic life, surrounded by spectacular nature and large
vistas, that peace of mind necessary in order to discover the things
of real importance for one's happiness.
Besides
the quality of living in southern Chile, from an economical point of
view - emphasizing the invested capital - conditions are just as favourable.
Real estate - urban or rural - has increased in value since the political
opening in the 80's. The considerable economic growth - in spite of
world-wide crisis - plus the increasing demand will further raise the
value of real estate (2005 showed 6,3% growth GNP. For the period up
to 2010 the prognosis of annual increase indicates 5-6% on an average.

The
picturesque city of Valdivia - commercial centre of the region- is beautifully
situated on the river banks of Rio Calle-Calle and Rio Cruces. It is
not by chance that the scenic beauty, the presence of a university within
a lovely campus, as well as the manifold influences of more than 150
years of European and world-wide immigration have made this town a centre
of attraction for creators of arts and culture. This is why the cultural
activities (for instance the annual International Film Festival) is
sufficiently diversified so that even during the rainy winter one would
never get bored.
Of special attraction are river-tours aboard cruise boats that offer
night-dancing and visits to South America's few remaining Spanish colonial
fortifications of the XVIIth century, situated on different islands
of the estuary.
Within the urban circle nature lovers can visit the large-scaled facilities
of the botanical garden and the arboretum. Close to the town one can
find the bird sanctuary of Rio Cruces (Ramsar protectorate). Within
the Province of Valdivia two national parks and two national reservations
can be visited.
If you like sports, there is much to choose from: yachting, golf, sport
aviation, swimming, tennis, rowing and horseback-riding. Valdivia is
a point of departure for white-water excursions (rafting, kayaking)
and fly-fishing.
